Poweshiek County STEM Festival

August 14, 2015

The South Central Iowa STEM Hub will host a free, family-friendly STEM Festival for the greater Poweshiek County area on Sunday, November 8, 2015, from 1:00-4:00 P.M. Participants will visit STEM exhibits that feature interactive learning activities, hands-on demonstrations and fun make-and-takes.
Registration is for exhibitors and volunteers is open now at https://scstemhub.drake.edu/.
"This is a one-stop exposure to a variety of STEM majors and careers," said Dr. Sarah Derry, SC STEM Hub Manager. "It's an exciting way for kids to see the application of the things they're currently learning in science and math courses."

Currently, planners are seeking area business and industry, high schools and colleges, and professional and student groups to host hands-on activities, creative learning experiences and interactive demonstrations. Derry is happy to brainstorm exhibitor ideas.

Mary Sherwood, BGM Elementary Principal, hopes the festival brings "general awareness and excitement for STEM education. Science is all around."

The event will be held on BGM's Campus, located at 1090 Jackson St, Brooklyn, IA 52211. For more information or to register as an exhibitor or volunteer please visit https://scstemhub.drake.edu/. Exhibitor/volunteer registration deadline is October 16th.

The general public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Families register at the door on November 8th.
