July 29, 2016

Poweshiek Leadership Program is now accepting applications for the 2016-2017 Class. Poweshiek Leadership Program (PLP) is designed for area employers to grow employees into community leaders. This program focuses on uniting emerging leaders, increasing participants’ knowledge of county issues, developing a collective vision for the county, and enhancing each person’s ability to lead. PLP offers various hands-on learning experiences, group activities, team building, discussions, and presentations addressing topics and issues that our county is faced with. The sessions run from September to May and focus on the following topics: Finding the Leader Within; What Are Our Community Resources; Local County and State Government; Collaborating with Youth; and Economic Development as it relates to business, industry and agriculture. In addition to the personal, professional, and civic knowledge our participants leave with, PLP also likes to give back to the communities they represent. The tuition for 2016-2017 is $300, if registered by August 22nd (price will increase to $350 August 23rd). It includes more than 50 contact hours of training, 9 sessions, all materials and refreshments. Sponsorship by an employer or organization is encouraged, but not required. A limited number of partial scholarships may be awarded. If you are interested in participating this year, contact Cathy at 641-623-5188 or clents@iastate.edu. Poweshiek Leadership Program was formed in 1995 through a collaborative effort of Imagine Grinnell, ISU/Poweshiek County Extension, Iowa Valley Community College District, and Poweshiek Iowa Development. To date, nearly 380 people have graduated from the program.
