Business Analyst
Description:
Position Purpose:

The business analyst serves as the liaison between business stakeholders and the IT team to translate business needs into IT solutions. Projects will vary in scope and complexity. Works under the direct supervision of IT manager.



Job Duties and Responsibilities

Develops and defines user stories, acceptance criteria and assumptions in collaboration with the agile team and SMEs to facilitate a strong solution with high risk mitigation.

Maintains a healthy product backlog for scrum team and communicates with other agile teams when dependencies are identified.

Researches solutions and supports options for current business operational systems to support existing applications or provide solutions to existing technology issues. Collaborates with business unit stakeholders to identify business needs and elicit requirements.

Consults Product Owner when business priorities conflict or needs change.

Collaborates and negotiates with business units on project work that increases efficiencies and productivity.

Performs all other duties as assigned.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in business related or technology related field; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Ability to think logically and to continually use personal judgment, experience, known facts and figures to make decisions and deal with problems. Possesses sound analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

Ability to communicate and present in both oral and written format. Develops presentation skills to share information with both technical and non-technical personnel. Adapts communication style to individual audience and skill level.

Ability to learn quickly, grasp business processes and functions and understand how they will impact the working product. This includes both technology and Property and Casualty insurance related concepts.

Demonstrated ability to work with customers and build relationships to evaluate business needs. Acts with diplomacy and consideration when evaluating request.

Demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment towards assignment and problem solving. Exhibits self-assurance and a creative aptitude.

Ability to work in a harmonious manner with stakeholders, agile team, and leadership.

Working knowledge of agile methodologies and ability to apply daily application of principles.

Prefer experience with JIRA or similar workflow software.

Progression towards completing technical coursework preferred.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Limited travel may be required. Must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and comply with Fleet Safety Policy.



Supervisor Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibilities assigned.



Responsibility & Decision Making Authority

The Business Analyst is responsible for assigned work from beginning to completion. Assigned work has varying complexity and may impact more than one system application.

Responsible for maintaining a healthy backlog for the agile team, typically defined as two to three sprints of refined stories.



Fiscal Responsibility

No direct budgeting or fiscal responsibilities.



Contacts (Internal, External)

Frequently works with all divisions of the organization, including all levels from front-line to leadership.

Occasionally works with outside vendor or contractor to create solution for assigned projects and software issues.

The work may be fast-paced, especially when managing multiple projects, when working with many types of individuals, or when faced with tight deadlines. Meeting schedule is heavy. May be required to work outside of normal business hours to accomplish work.

The position is located in an office environment with a noise level typical of an office setting. The position requires an individual to sit for long periods of time at a computer monitor. Requires visual acuity and repetitive movement is involved.
