Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist (2000260) – Malcom, IA

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to serve as an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist, a member of the Malcom site and Performance Materials EHS Community. This role is located in Malcom, IA. The Malcom site is strategically significant for the Performance Materials (PM) and Urethanes Business Group in North America. The site employs approximately 55 people including contractors to produce polyurethane chemicals, systems and elastomers consistent with global strategies going into such markets as custom molding. The site is experiencing rapid growth, making for a challenging and highly engaging work environment.

In this role, you will support the Malcom site for environmental, health and safety (EHS) activities. You will report to the Malcom Site Manager with a dotted line to the Performance Materials EHS Functional Team Leader. You will primarily support the Malcom site, but you may also support other Performance Materials sites as the need arises. You will also be a member of the Performance Materials EHS Community and will interact with EHS experts and professionals who support BASF’s North American sites and businesses.

Although not required, a certification as a Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, or demonstrated progress toward such certifications is desirable.

Your unwavering commitment to compliance will be evident as you provide technical and regulatory expertise to ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety requirements and continuous improvements of EHS programs.
Leveraging your education in Engineering or Science and your experience as an EHS professional or in a manufacturing role with EHS responsibilities, you will provide strategic direction to site and BASF leadership on EHS issues and opportunities.
Your experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis will be essential as you participate in project reviews, process hazard analyses, and change management processes.
Utilizing your solid analytical and computer skills, you will ensure all internal and external reporting requirements are met. You will also recommend efficiency improvements to the data generation and reporting process in partnership with operations to optimize available systems and technology.
Successfully engaging within the organization, you will lead and/or participate on EHS work teams or task forces and work with other EHS experts in the organization on the development of company-wide processes and initiatives to ensure continuous EHS improvement.
As a subject matter expert on environmental, health and safety topics, you will provide training content, and where appropriate, deliver training or coaching. You will also use your expertise to facilitate the sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and successfully demonstrated practices across the BASF EHS organization.
Demonstrating your strong knowledge of environmental, health, safety (EHS) regulations as they apply to manufacturing environments, you will support the interface with regulatory agencies and third parties, as needed, on compliance and enforcement issues.
Your experience with environmental, health and safety management systems will be a valued asset as you support implementation of Responsible Care® Management Systems.
