Based on the results and comments from the meetings sponsored by Iowa Valley Community College, Poweshiek Iowa Development, and Grinnell Community Schools on December 4, 2014 and April 23, 2015, we are inviting you to serve on a newly forming regional strategic workforce industry Sector Board. Multiple industry sectors were represented at these meetings and a critical need was identified that for our region to be successful in starting and growing successful businesses, we need to work collaboratively as employers, educators and community based organizations to make certain we have the skilled workforce prepared and in the pipeline. Technology advancements, economic competition, and access to a qualified workforce are a major focus for many employers competing in this region.

This Industry Sector Board will provide an active forum for industry-specific workforce-related topics/needs to be addressed in order to keep this economic region competitive and growing. They will also focus on developing a world-class competitive workforce system through alignment of individual and regional economic development goals. Business leaders will engage in a structured discussion on the workforce challenges facing them today and into the future with a particular focus on entry- to mid-level positions. As a member of this board, you will be charged with developing a career pathways (mapping) framework to move broad-based workforce training and education programs to responsive, accessible and flexible skills-focused programs and delivery formats.

The Sector Board strategy has been extremely successful in regions around the country because of its dual customer focus on employers and workers. Educators and economic developers have also been invited to participate in this important dialogue.
